IVF couples face higher costs
COUPLES undergoing IVF might face higher bills after European regulators said they should be screened for diseases between each treatment cycle.
British doctors said it was unlikely new cases of infections such as HIV and syphilis would be picked up through screening couples between cycles rather than just at the start of their course of fertility treatment.
The move could mean couples needing to be tested every one or two months.
Dr Allan Pacey said: "A blanket screening policy applied uncritically is unhelpful and inappropriate."
