Holby blamed for nursing fall
TV DRAMAS such as Holby City and Casualty have been blamed for the high drop-out rate in Scottish nursing.
Top nursing bosses claim the soaps give students unrealistic expectations of the job, and they are disappointed when they discover the job is not as glamorous as it is portrayed on TV.
NHS Tayside nursing director Professor Liz Wilson said the shows contributed to a high drop-out rate from education programmes.
Prof Wilson said: "People watch Holby City and Casualty and think that is what they are going into. The reality is very different. It is a tough job.
"There is lots of education, but also lots of challenges for people in placements."
