Help for Parkinson's patients
SUFFERERS of Parkinson's disease in the Lothians are set to benefit from a new service at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Edinburgh.
Staff in ward eight of the hospital have created a Parkinson's room that they hope can become a specialist resource for hospitals throughout NHS Lothian.
Ward Manager Lorraine Somerville, who has been involved from the start of the project, said: "We have ten beds on the ward designated as having an interest in Parkinson's so it made sense to try and do more."
With the help of two pharmaceutical companies and the Edinburgh branch of the Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS), the new room was developed and is already helping patients, their families and staff.
