Help in talking through dementia is on the way
A NEW guide to communicating with people with dementia is set to be published today.
Bupa, which has produced the talking toolkit, has said it hopes the guide will help the 9000 people in the Capital with dementia.
It was developed in response to research that revealed that one-third of Scots are apprehensive about talking to people with dementia while many are unsure about how to help them cope with the condition.
Professor Graham Stokes, director of Dementia Care for Bupa Care Services, said: “Communicating with someone with dementia can present challenges especially as the condition develops, but finding ways to maintain meaningful communication is the single most important way people can support those with dementia. Our toolkit identifies some specific ways to help and encourage people in Edinburgh to do this.”
The toolkit can be downloaded from bupa.co.uk/understanddementia.
