Health warning on cleanliness
A HEALTH watchdog found “poor” standards of cleaning and blood contamination in some wards on a recent hospital inspection.
Inspectors found “significant” amounts of dust under the beds, on patient lockers and on curtain rails in wards at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.
The Healthcare Environment Inspectorate found blood contamination on wards – on a refrigerator door and a patient drip stand.
The report also noted that compliance with standard infection control varied. Inspectors have issued nine requirements which they expect NHS Highland to meet “as a matter of urgency”.
NHS Highland said that Raigmore is using a new cleaning regime with a chlorine-based disinfectant, and has alloted more time to do the work.
