Further case of Legionnaires confirmed

ANOTHER case of Legionnaires’ disease was confirmed by the Scottish Government last night.

The total number of confirmed cases from the Edinburgh outbreak now stands at 51 and the number of suspected cases has dropped to 48, with the overall number of recorded cases remaining at 99.

Of those cases being treated in hospital yesterday, one patient remained in intensive care and there were six on general wards. A total of 20 cases are being treated in the community, 59 have been discharged from hospital and three people have died.

Ten cases are being treated outside the NHS Lothian area. The ages of the confirmed cases ranges between 32 to 85 years old, with more males than females affected.

Investigations into the potential source of the outbreak continue.
