Exercise helps to save lives
A SINGLE fitness session most days of the week can help to save the lives of heart failure patients, it was claimed today.
Researchers who studied 2,331 people with moderate to severe heart failure found patients who regularly exercised fared much better than those who did not.
Participants were assigned to an exercise group or a "usual care" group. Those in the exercise group used a stationary gym cycle or treadmill, working up from three sessions to five sessions a week.
The study showed that exercise led to an 11 per cent reduction in the risk of patients being admitted to hospital or dying.
