Drenched Race for Life runners shine in downpour

Thousands of women braved the rain at the weekend to take part in Race for Life.

Women of all ages – many in fancy dress – entered the Cancer Research UK charity event, in which participants run, walk or jog to help fund research into the disease.

Held at Holyrood Park, the event – in which more than 5700 women took part – was started by breast cancer survivor Pamela Adams and her nine-year-old daughter, Katie.

Katie and Pamela, 49, from Carrick Knowe, were joined by Forth One presenter Paula Whitelock to sound the starter horn before all three took part in the 5km event.

Ms Adams, who was diagnosed with cancer almost five years ago, told the Evening News: “The weather might have been bad, but the atmosphere was absolutely amazing.”

A one-minute silence was held on Father’s Day in memory of dads lost to cancer.
