Crisis of ageing foster parents
A FOSTER care charity today warned of an "impending crisis" as over two-thirds of the workforce approach retirement age.
About 69 per cent of carers in Scotland are over 50, with just 5 per cent under 40, a report from Fostering Network says.
Sara Lurie, director of the charity in Scotland, said:
"It's crucial more people come forward."
The report highlights a current shortage of 1,700 carers across the country.
The charity wants the Scottish Government to introduce regulation and funding so that fostering services have to give carers "adequate financial support".
