Cancer link to gum disease
GUM disease is associated with a significant increase in cancer risk, even in non-smokers, scientists have found.
A study of more than 48,000 US men showed that overall cancer risk was 21 per cent higher for those with a history of gum disease who had never smoked. Including smokers, gum disease was associated with a 14 per cent higher overall cancer risk.
