Cancer group secures £30m

A SUPPORT service for Scottish cancer patients facing financial hardship has generated £30 million in benefits in the last five years, a charity says.

The welfare initiative by Macmillan Cancer Support advises people affected by the illness how they can claim grants and other concessions they may not have known they were entitled to.

The charity estimates 50 million in benefits goes unclaimed by cancer patients every year.

It now has 50 welfare rights officers operating throughout Scotland to help people secure benefits such as disability living allowance and insurance.
