Call for drunk tanks in towns

SCOTTISH ministers have been called on to set up "drunk tanks" in town and city centres to stop the emergency services being overwhelmed on Friday and Saturday nights.

The proposal came in a report drawn up for the Scottish Government on the problems with drunk and incapable revellers.

The study estimated that hospital emergency departments deal with up to 21,000 people a year who are drunk and incapable, or as many as 404 cases a week. The cost of treating drunk people is estimated to be as much as 1.95 million a year.
