C diff rises but levels stay low
CASES of Clostridium difficile in Scottish hospitals have risen, but remain at historically low levels, figures show.
There were 378 cases in patients aged 65 and over in April to June, up 6.5 per cent against the quarter before on 355 cases.
Among those aged 15 to 65 cases went up from 127 to 160, but down from 165 during the same period last year.
Health Protection Scotland said the increases were not statistically significant. The Scottish Government said there had been a big drop in the last four years.
The number of cases in over-65s is the second lowest since 2006. Cases of MRSA fell to their lowest levels since 2005.
