Biggest daily rise in swine flu cases sees the Scottish total surge to 850
THE number of confirmed swine flu cases in Scotland increased by 111 yesterday – the largest daily rise since the beginning of the outbreak. It brings the total number of cases of the H1N1 virus to 850.
The Scottish Government said an increase of 92 cases in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area was in part affected by a high volume of laboratory testing over the past few days.
There were 14 new cases in Lanarkshire, two in the Lothians and one each in the Borders, Fife and Tayside.
Yesterday also saw four new school closures – Cumbernauld Primary and St Helen's Primary, also in Cumbernauld, St Charles' Primary in Cambuslang and Crawforddyke Primary and Nursery in Carluke.
Chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson said: "We still think we are heading for the largest surge of cases in the autumn and winter."
