Bidding to build the Sick Kids to expire
A TENDERING period to win the contract to build and run the new Sick Kids hospital was due to expire today.
The 28-year contract, worth between £140 million and £165m, was first advertised in early December with interested parties invited to submit a pre-qualification questionnaire.
The new hospital, which will be built alongside the existing Royal Infirmary in Little France and also incorporate the region’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and Department of Clinical Neurosciences, is expected to open in 2017.
Work on flood defences and a road as part of the new hospital got under way today, with one of the car parks nearest the Royal Infirmary’s maternity unit closing for up to six weeks.
The next stage of the bidding process will begin in March, when formal invitations to submit tenders will be sent out.
