Addiction groups sign up to recovery consortium

a new approach to tackling alcohol and drug addiction is being adopted in the Lothians.

The three local alcohol and drug partnerships in the NHS Lothian area have signed up to a Smart Recovery Consortium.

Smart, which stands for Self Management and Recovery Training, focuses on self-help and group sessions, with secular, science-based techniques. The move will see a network of aftercare groups established across the Lothians.

Nick Smith, joint programme manager of the Edinburgh Alcohol and Drug Partnership, said: “By rolling this out across Lothian, we hope service users, no matter where they live or what service they engage with, will be offered the same techniques so when they are ready to move on to a follow-up service, they will have a network that they recognise.”
