Head for George Street
IT'S the liveliest, trendiest street in the Capital. So where better to head for a night out this weekend than George Street?
Bustling and in the heart of the city centre George Street is ideally located within walking distance from taxis, night buses and lots of residential areas, meaning it's easily accessible wherever you live. If you need further convincing then it must be said that you won't get a better cocktail anywhere else in Edinburgh.
You probably won't get a more expensive one either, but George Street clubbers are known to have a fair bit of disposable income. For those who don't, early entry and club loyalty cards are the way to go.
Those keen to spot celebs should keep their eyes peeled. Expect to see overly tanned girls and boys, footballers, wannabe footballers wives and not one person wearing a sensible coat.
All of the clubs are student friendly and you can organise to queue jump by simply registering via the various websites. At the end of a long working week, head to the Opal Lounge tonight for some much deserved dancing to some house and dance classics courtesy of the legendary Jez Hill. Free before 10pm, 4 before 11PM and 8 there after.
And if that's not enough, on Saturday, Musicology at Shanghai (Le Monde) is a must. The club has managed to secure the services of two of Scotland's biggest DJ's playing alternate Saturdays: so whenever you go you're guaranteed some quality tunes.
The Guide columnist and one-man-MTV Scott Granger (UK's leading video DJ) mixes and scratches DVDs on 13 plasma screens.
This is the man who has remixed for the likes of Justin Timberlake, Faithless and Jamiroquai.
Edinburgh's very own and ever popular Calverto is the alter-ego for Saturday nights. Playing the very best in vocal funk to chart anthems with a fist-full of dance thrown in for good measure. Doors 9pm-3am, entry 10.
If you're looking to round off the weekend in style, then head to Playgirl Mansion at Lulu.
Forget the Sunday blues with cutting edge disco and classic house music bringing a touch of Studio 54 to Edinburgh courtesy of Trendy Wendy. If you're feeling a bit flash, then why not treat yourself to one of the scrummy cocktails on offer. Drinks promotions all night, 10pm-3am. 5 entry free before 11pm.
Catering to a wide audience, the clubs on George Street shouldn't be overlooked. And don't forget, being able to get home for free on foot can't be a bad thing.
