HBOS tickled pink to back charity Moonwalk

THE landmark Scottish headquarters of the HBOS bank will be lit pink to encourage the thousands of walkers taking part in the Edinburgh Moonwalk later this month.

The iconic building, at the top of the Mound, will join other businesses in the city in brightening up the darkness during the night-time event.

Other new recruits who will display pink lighting or transform their premises with pink displays include Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh on Haymarket, Boudiche, the Frederick Street lingerie store, BHS on Princes Street, St George's West Church, Camera Obscura at the top of the Royal Mile, Paper Tiger on Lothian Road and Unique Events in Leith.

Walk organiser Sally Orr said: "We are delighted that HBOS and the other businesses have decided to turn pink for the evening as seeing our colour and knowing the support is out there is great encouragement for our walkers.

"There is still time for other businesses to join in and we have published a pack that tells them how to do it."

Scotland on Sunday is the media sponsor of the Moonwalk, which starts at midnight on Saturday, June 14. The event involves 12,000 walkers taking part in either a full or half marathon distance walk and raises funds for vital breast cancer causes. A 12-page souvenir supplement, carrying the names of all participants and pictures of the event, will be published with the June 15 edition of this newspaper.

Other sites committed to turning pink are Scotland on Sunday's offices and the Balmoral Hotel.
