Haggis under threat as young shun the trade

IT may be their busiest time of year, but haggis makers are warning a skills shortage could threaten the future of the industry.

Despite strong sales ahead of Burns Night, producers of the national dish say fewer young people are entering the trade.

Sheila Scott, of Findlay's of Portobello's, which is supplying 800 haggis for a Burns supper at London's Grosvenor Hotel, said: "Young men are not coming into the business and it's a skill that not a lot of people have.

The industry needs to take a look at itself. We need the vitality of the young."
