Gun massacre victim, 66, who loved animals is laid to rest

TRIBUTES were paid to Cumbria gun massacre victim Jane Robinson at her funeral yesterday.

Her twin sister, Barrie Robinson, 66, joined fellow members of the West Cumberland Choral Society gathered for the service at St Cuthbert's Church in Seascale where a pigeon, made of dyed chrysanthemums and feathers, was perched on the animal lover's coffin.

Details are due to be released tomorrow about gunman Derrick Bird's funeral, which is expected to be held tomorrow.

Earlier hundreds of taxi drivers turned out to say goodbye to another victim, cabbie Darren Rewcastle – shot in the face by his colleague Bird.

The grounds of Distington crematorium in west Cumbria were packed with cabs bearing the St George's Cross – a mark of support for England in the World Cup.

Mr Rewcastle, 43, an avid football fan, was targeted by father-of-two Bird because of perceived slights against him on the Duke Street taxi rank in the seaside town of Whitehaven. Many of the mourners at the funeral wore football strips in Mr Rewcastle's honour.
