Groom gets six months for wedding day street brawl

A BRIDEGROOM has been jailed for his part in a fight that saw his bride arrested on their wedding night and held on remand for four months.

Pamela Morris, 27, ended her special day by headbutting a woman – then being held in jail until being given bail earlier this month.

Morris and husband John, 29, had been booked into the Bentley Hotel in their hometown of Motherwell, Lanarkshire. They had been drinking with friends in the town's Brandon Bar on 5 April.

Morris – still wearing her wedding dress – had got into an argument with Gail Pilling at the pub's bar.

But when the happy couple left the bar to enjoy the first night of married life together, they encountered Pilling and her friend Nicola Dickson in the street.

A brawl – which was captured on CCTV – erupted and the Morrises, and their friend Margaret O'Rourke, 35, were arrested.

Yesterday the couple and O'Rourke returned to Hamilton Sheriff Court where Sheriff Small jailed John Morris for six months.

He put O'Rourke of Bellshill on probation for 18 months and also handed down 100 hours' community service to her. He deferred sentencing on Pamela Morris until September.
