Greyhound launch bus service between Scotland and London
THEY are synonymous with epic bus journeys along dusty highways between American towns and cities, but soon the iconic brand of Greyhound will be arriving in Scotland.
A new overnight service from Scotland to London was unveiled today in Glasgow by transport company FirstGroup, which owns Greyhound in North America and last year brought the iconic brand to the UK.
Greyhound UK will start the night service between Glasgow and London Victoria in the new year.
Three coaches will operate the route, which will run seven days a week.
In keeping with the Greyhound UK tradition of naming its coaches after women's names from popular American songs, Hello Dolly, Long Tall Sally and Suzy Baby will make their debut from January 10.
Alex Warner, managing director of Greyhound UK, said: "Entry to the Scottish market has been a key strategic aim since we brought Greyhound over from North America.
"Our cross-border service is a very exciting proposition for us and we have every confidence that it will prove popular.
"Greyhound has been an unqualified success since we began services between the south coast and London last September.
"We cannot wait to get started on January 10 and demonstrate to Glasgow just what a fantastic service Greyhound offers."
The service will leave Buchanan Street bus station daily at 10pm with a 10.30pm stop at Hamilton bus station, before arriving at Victoria at 7am.
The service from Victoria departs at 10pm, stops at Hamilton bus station at 6am and arrives at Buchanan Street bus station at 6.30am.
The new Greyhound service replaces the "Nightflyer" which was operated by FirstGroup in Glasgow.
Fares will start from 1 plus a 50p booking fee.
