Greens plan to level the field
The Scottish Green Party has pledged to dramatically overhaul the planning system in the next parliamentary term to allow communities to take on building developers.
Councillor Alison Johnstone, who is standing to be an MSP for the Lothians region, is driving the issue and entered city politics after a long-running battle between developers Applecross and Wimpey and her local community over the Meggetland luxury housing development.
The row ended in a high-profile public inquiry held by the then Scottish Executive.
The Greens say they aim to redress the rebalance between communities and developers.
