GPs issue flu warning to those most at risk
GPs across the city are to warn workers with a range of conditions that they are not immune from the flu.
In response to a rise in the amount of influenza cases in the last week, doctors will tell nine-to-five workers that they can get a free jab at out-of-hours clinics if they are in the at-risk groups.
These include those suffering from asthma, diabetes, lung problems and other medical complaints, for whom a flu bug would have rather more serious consequences than others.
Health chiefs are delighted at the take up of the free jabs among the over 65s but some concerns remain about those who think they don't need the inoculation.
Latest statistics show that, last week, nearly 1000 people in the Lothians reported to their GP with flu-like symptoms, far higher than the previous week and considerably more than in similar sized board areas like Glasgow.
NHS Lothian expects to be immunising well into February.
