Government 'trusted over economy aid'
THE Government received another boost for its economic rescue package today with a new poll showing Labour is increasingly trusted as the party to steer the UK through the recession.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Chancellor Alistair Darling command a nine-point lead over their Tory counterparts, by 40 per cent to 31 per cent, according to the Populus survey for The Times.
It marked a trebling of their advantage on the crucial criteria since Mr Darling unveiled his package of measures to kick-start recovery in the Pre-Budget Report.
And there was further bad news for Conservative leader David Cameron – his party's support took a rare dip below the 40 per cent mark as Labour cut the opposition's lead to four points.
Mr Cameron's own lead over Mr Brown as the best candidate to take Britain forward after the next election was also reduced, to two points from eight last month.
