Golf show is on course for 2009 Fringe
THE history of golf on Leith Links is to be documented in a play in next year's Fringe.
The Leith Rules Golf Society – the organisation set up to protect the area's golfing heritage – commissioned the writing of a three-act play based on the origins of the game.
The play has now been completed, and it is expected that a cast will be sought and rehearsals will take place in time for it to become a main feature at next year's Fringe event.
A spokeswoman for the organisation said the author of the play had been meeting with actors from the amateur dramatic group Leitheatre.
She said: "The author has been meeting with a subgroup of Leitheatre to hear the script read aloud by actors, in order to develop the draft into a script ready for production in the 2009 Fringe."
Leith Links is the site of the first ever game of golf played by official rules.
