BOSSES at the exclusive Muirfield Golf Course have denied that they snubbed pop star Justin Timberlake and stopped his mother from playing at the course.
It was reported today that officials at the course in Gullane, East Lothian, refused to let the 26-year-old singer’s mum Lynn walk the course while he played, and later refused to let him into the club restaurant because he was not wearing a jacket and tie.
However the club denied the claims, saying they only refused entry to Timberlake’s publicist – who was not allowed to walk the course as she was not a player.
Club secretary Alastair Brown said: “Justin Timberlake and his mother played here on Tuesday but we told his publicist that it would not be possible for her to accompany them on the course.
“After the game, they did not wish to enter the restaurant area but in any case he would not have been able to do so, as he was not wearing the required jacket and tie.”
He added that the singer had accepted the club’s decision and had not seemed angry about it.
The former ‘N Sync singer went to play a round at the world famous course, which has hosted the Open Championship, ahead of a series of concerts in Glasgow next month.
It was reported that the pop star later headed for a meal at nearby Archerfield. He also played a round at Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus on Sunday, where he was mobbed by autograph hunters.
The singer, a member of the 1990s boy band ‘N Sync, is famous for hits such as SexyBack and My Love, and also for being the former fiancee of Britney Spears.
