Go-ahead for super-prison
PROPOSALS for a new "super-prison" to serve the north-east of Scotland were yesterday given the green light at a meeting of Aberdeenshire Council.
The application by the Scottish Prison Service to build a 100 million jail at Peterhead was unanimously approved at a meeting of the full council. The new HM Prison Grampian will replace both the Victorian jail in the town and Aberdeen's Craiginches Prison.
But, at the same meeting, councillors rejected ambitious plans for a 100 million golf, housing and leisure development on Royal Deeside.
