Gluten-free bread sales are on a roll
A SPECIAL gluten and wheat-free bread created by an Edinburgh mum is proving to be a bestseller.
Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne developed the Genius loaf after struggling to find snacks that her seven-year-old son Robin could stomach. The youngster suffers painful reactions to gluten.
The mother of three, who previously cooked at a Michelin-star restaurant, spent three years working on the bread.
She said: "Like every child with gluten intolerance, Robin has had to accept that he sometimes has to go without certain treats and will never be quite the same as his classmates, even though I have always been determined to do whatever I can to allow him to feel as normal as possible.
"I knew that the one invention that would help Robin more than any other would be a fresh gluten-free loaf that both looked and tasted as good as ordinary bread."
The loaf is now the best-selling product in Tesco's "free from" range. There are about 600,000 people in Britain, including 80,000 children, who are unable to eat gluten.
