Glitter's name to remain on sex offenders' register
PAEDOPHILE Gary Glitter has abandoned his legal battle against being forced to sign the sex offenders register, court staff said yesterday.
The former 1970s glam rock star signed the register on his return from Vietnam, where he served nearly three years in prison for molesting two young girls.
He was due to appear in court next month to challenge the order but his solicitor withdrew the appeal in a letter to the court, a spokesman for Harrow Crown Court said.
The spokesman said Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, had his appeal withdrawn on Wednesday. In the letter, Glitter's solicitor said his client did not think he would get a fair trial because of the media attention.
The decision means Glitter's name will remain on the register for life along with his address and other details.
