Glasgow to immortalise Big Yin in steel

BILLY Connolly is to have his image etched on a new block of flats in the Glasgow neighbourhood where he grew up.

The comedian will be featured playing his banjo on a sculpture to be placed on a new development in the city's Anderston district.

The giant steel artwork will be suspended 40ft in the air, meaning the Big Yin will be seen for miles around.

Housing association Sanctuary has commissioned Glasgow artist Andy Scott to create the image of the 67-year-old stand-up comic.

The honour comes after it was revealed that Connolly is to be granted the freedom of his home city by Lord Provost Bob Winter.

Connolly will receive the award at a civic dinner on August 20.
