Gay bishop to take the stage
THE world's first openly gay Anglican bishop is to take to the stage with comedian Abie Philbin Bowman, Cambodian temple dancers and Tanzanian musicians as part of this year's Festival of Spirituality and Peace.
Gene Robinson, whose election as Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of New Hampshire in the US has prompted fears of a schism in the Anglican church, will talk about his belief that change and adaptation are at the heart of Christianity and should not be feared.
The festival will take place at St John's Church on the corner of Princes Street and Lothian Road from August 3 to 24.
