Gareth Edwards' TV Review
How To Look Good Naked (C4, 9pm, Last night) LOOKING good naked is not something you would expect to be top of the worry list when you're 60.
For style-guru Gok Wan, however, the older generation are just another target who need his unique brand of help to get their body confidence back.
Yes, this week Wan had grannies in mind, which led to him spouting mantras such as "seniors are the new sensational" and "60 is the new sexy" to an appreciative audience.
His latest charge was 72-year-old Sue, once a dressed-to-impress businesswoman but now a frump who thought she resembled a fat-gnome.
She felt like a lump, and in the all-around mirror test she certainly looked a little lumpy too.
Gok was going to give her back her body confidence back, which he insisted would only take a little bit of 'Gok-magic'.
Everything he does has to have the word Gok in front of it, apparently. He probably calls his car a Gok-mobile.
Anyway, to boost Sue's self-confidence he takes her to a cinema and makes her watch as an audience of strangers gawp at what appears to be a full-body police photo of her in her underwear, then asks them all to say what they thought of it.
Now I imagine such an experience would shatter most people's self-belief, but Sue took a lot of encouragement from it, and even managed to take all the rather tactless tips Gok gave her about tucking away her tummy-fat in her stride.
And by the end of the show she was able to take to a catwalk in front of a mob of curious shoppers, stripped down to her undies and then finally, to nothing at all.
You have to admire Gok's techniques, which at least don't involve the kind of extreme surgery seen on other 'inspirational' body image shows.
Quite what Sue will do with her new-found ability to wander around in public in the all-together is anyone's guess.
