Garage hit by £20,000 blaze after firework attack

A FIRE has caused £20,000 worth of damage at a city petrol station after thugs are thought to have let off a firework in its car wash.

Three teenagers were seen lighting something on the floor of the car wash at the BP petrol station on Calder Road and fire chiefs suspect it was a firework.

Staff at the garage managed to put out the fire before it spread to the rest of the garage forecourt.

Fire investigators will continue their work this morning but it is thought the firework sparked the blaze that destroyed the car wash. The incident happened at about 7pm last night.

The first suspect is described as being white, between 16 and 18-years-old, 5ft 6 tall, and wearing a white top with black band across the back, Adidas tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

The other two suspects are described as being 16 to 18 years and were wearing dark tracksuits.

A police spokesman said: "It was fortunate that more damage was not caused to the garage, thanks to the quick-thinking actions of the staff.

"We would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the fire at the car wash or knows who the three vandals are to contact police."
