Game review: Kinectimals

Created by iconic British game developer David Braben, Kinectimals marks another strong addition to Microsoft's growing roster of Kinect exclusives.

The premise is a lush jungle island inhabited by loveable big-cat cubs that players must tend to - similar to Nintendogs on Nintendo DS, but bolstered with some superb use of motion-control technology.

Arriving on the island, players can choose from cubs including tigers, lions and panthers, before exploring the terrain and engaging in a series of fun and varied challenges.

Using Kinect, gamers can reach out to pat their cub to keep it happy, and even call it by name using the peripheral's onboard microphone, making for a more engaging experience.

Players can use a wide range of toys to amuse their charges, such as squeaky balls and remote-control cars; each delivering multiple challenges and high-score tables.

The more you play with your cub, the more of the island you uncover, unlocking new gadgets, toys and care items. You always feel like you're achieving something each time you play with your cub; gratifying for younger gamers.

To top it off, Kinectimals is incredibly well presented, featuring top-of-the-range visuals and a charming aesthetic that wouldn't look out of place in a Pixar film. Perfect for children and families.
