Game review: Gears Of War: Judgement

Have your say

2013 is already a blockbuster year for gaming. Big-name sequels have been coming thick and fast (from Tomb Raider to SimCity), with the latest Gears Of War joining the ranks.

Gears Of War: Judgement

Microsoft Studios, Xbox 360, £36.99-£39.99

Once again you are a member of COG, humanity’s last defence against the alien invasion, but this prequel is less po-faced than previous instalments. Despite the huge body count it never goes for the “war is hell” motif. Judgement is more “Yee-ha, let’s kill us some aliens.”

The cartoony graphics and violence are still all present and correct, but there’s a super-fast pac. This brevity permeates the entire game: your squad is constantly on the move, killing aliens with a multitude of (often incredibly inventive) weaponry. This constant forward momentum adds up to a fairly lightweight but undeniably exhilarating gaming experience.
