Fundraiser gears up for Sahara trek

FUNDRAISER Matthew McHugh is facing the challenge of a lifetime as he gears up to trek through the Sahara desert.

Matthew, 21, from Currie, will be departing for Morocco on 14 November to begin his 100km trek through the Sahara desert in order to raise funds for Help for Heroes charity.

He said: "This will hopefully contribute towards the fitness level I need to gain and maintain prior to my application to join the Royal Marine Commandos in December. More importantly it shows my and your support to our servicemen and women who put their lives on the line for us every day.

"On their return from active service many are wounded. They are expertly cared for but their real recovery begins when they realise that we care. Help for Heroes goes that extra mile to help show that we do by providing quality experiences towards their new challenge – adjusting to life after injury."
