PRIME MINISTER David Cameron and his Liberal Democrat partner Nick Clegg set about chosing the political figures that will make up the coalition cabinet.

• David Cameron (Conservative) as Prime Minister
• Nick Clegg (Liberal Democrat) Deputy Prime Minister
• Geogre Osbourne (Conservative) Chancellor
• William Hague (Conservative) Foreign Secretary
• Theresa May (Conservative) Home Secretary
• Andrew Lansley (Conservative) as Health Secretary
• Michael Gove (Conservative) as Education Secretary.
• Vince Cable (Liberal Democrats) Business Secretary
• Iain Duncan Smith (Conservative) Secretary for Work and Pensions
• Liam Fox (Conservative) Defence Secretary
• Kenneth Clarke (Conservative) as Justice Secretary and Lord Chancellor
• Danny Alexander (Liberal Democrats) Scottish Secretary
• David Laws (Liberal Democrats) Chief Secretary to the Treasury
• Eric Pickles (Conservative) Communities and Local Government Secretary
• Patrick McLoughlin (Conservative), the Tory chief whip while they were in opposition, will carry on as the Government Chief Whip.
