Fuelling sex abuse

YOUR report about a jailed paedophile gang (13 June) will shock and appal all right-thinking people, but our society is fertile soil for perverted sexual drives. The availability and invasion of pornography starts countless men down the road of exploration on the internet, leading into ever more extreme images as the addiction takes hold. The desire to indulge in criminal sexual activity inevitably follows.

If we are serious about protecting children, we should be taking action against our pornographic culture, cleaning up mainstream media, restricting internet porn and regaining a moral perspective that recognises pornography for what it is: addictive and erosive of sexual responsibility. Pornography does not satisfy lust by "providing an outlet", as some claim, but fuels it.
