Friend's sick child inspires

A MAN has been so moved by the plight of his friend's child he has donated £400 to the Sick Kids Hospital.

Martin Shanley, from East Calder, held his 25th birthday party recently and instead of accepting presents, asked everyone to make a donation.

This was in recognition of his friend's one-year-old son Oliver Thinn, who has been in and out of the hospital since birth.

Friends donated 289, which Mr Shanley made up to 400.
