Fresh row in council chief pay-off saga
EAST Lothian Council was under fire today for promoting an internal candidate to replace chief executive John Lindsay who is quitting with £100,000 in redundancy pay on top of a £200,000 retirement package.
Alex McCrorie, currently head of corporate finance at the council, is due to be formally appointed as the authority's new top official.
SNP councillor Michael Russell said: "Because of what happened earlier and the lack of external competition, the council elected in May should revisit this."
But senior Labour councillor John Ross said although Mr Lindsay was made redundant Mr McCrorie would have the same title, but the role would be different as it would combine the responsibilities with the finance job he already does.
