French tribute to Elsie Inglis

A TRIBUTE to Edinburgh's version of Florence Nightingale has been unveiled in France.

In front of delegates from both France and the UK, the ceremony took place just outside Paris in memory of Dr Elsie Inglis, the Edinburgh doctor who established hospitals across Europe during the First World War.

It is said her Scottish Women's Hospital for Foreign Service saved thousands of lives during the conflict, despite the fact she had been told not to bother trying to set it up.
