Free Reiki sessions on offer to Lothian carers

CARERS in Edinburgh are being offered free Reiki sessions under a new initiative.

Voice of Carers Across Lothian, VOCAL, is launching the sessions which will run for the next 12 months at the Carers Centre on Johnston Terrace.

The new service will be offered on the second Friday of every month, with four appointments available on a first come, first served basis.

Reiki is a non-intrusive complementary therapy which can help with physical and emotional difficulties.

The group said one in five carers suffers from poor health, and carers are twice as likely to become permanently sick and disabled compared with people who have no caring responsibilities This is often due to isolation, stress and lack of regular breaks from caring.

Jane Greenacre, VOCAL training manager said: "This free service is an excellent opportunity to try it out."

Carers interested in finding out more or making an appointment should call 0131-622 6666.
