Free concert to show love for Indian children

THE Scottish Chamber Orchestra are to play a free Valentine's Day concert for destitute Indian children cared for by Edinburgh charity Scottish Love in Action.

The musicians will take time out from their busy Indian tour to play a free concert for the children on February 14.

After entertaining classical music fans at the state-of-the-art Hyderabad International Convention Centre, the orchestra will swap black tie and bright lights for a humbler stage on the outskirts of the city of seven million.

In the grounds of SLA's Home-School, SCO members will put on a unique performance of Mozart, Beethoven and Indian compositions.

They will also share a curry with the children, handing out Saltire balloons, Saltire pens and Love Hearts.

Lis Dooner, SCO flautist, said: "We are so thrilled. We expect it to be a day of many emotions but most of all joy."

SLA and its Indian NGO partners have rescued these children, along with another 500 children in the town of Tuni, from scavenging in rubbish tips, street begging, bonded labour and prostitution.
