Friends of Earth is preparing a legal battle to try to block Britain’s trillion-pound shale gas bonanza. It wants to block any exploitation of this vast new reserve of cheap, clean energy.
Shale gas reserves identified so far are enough to keep the lights on for 141 years.
I see more “green” trouble ahead as those with vested interests rush to condemn fracking.
They will muster their PR teams and claim water pollution, earthquakes and anything else they can make up to discredit shale gas.
America has no such make-believe problems. What the zealots will not tell you is that in America the energy prices are now half of what they were three years ago and that energy prices in Europe are double that of America.
What the wind farm developers will not tell you is that shale gas would make their subsidised turbines obsolete.
Shale gas will create tens of thousands of jobs, boost tax revenues, improve our balance of payments, end UK energy dependence on foreign gas suppliers and lead to much cheaper manufacturing and domestic energy bills.
