Forth Bridge worker dies in fall

A WORKMAN on the Forth Bridge was killed last night after plunging 150ft.

The contractor fell from a ladder on to scaffolding and died at the scene.

Emergency rescue crews from Lothian and Borders Police, fire service, the ambulance service and Forth Coastguard were called to the scene after a 999 call was received shortly before 8:30pm. The crews, including eight fire appliances were still in attendance close to midnight last night.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "At 2044 hours today we received a report of a man having fallen from a ladder on the north side of the Forth Rail Bridge.

"The man, who was a contractor, died at the scene after falling approximately 150ft on to scaffolding below the railway tracks."
