Folk album review: Carrie Rodriguez
CARRIE RODRIGUEZ She Aint Me **** Continental Song City CSCCD1050, £12.72
Brought up in Austin, hanging out with family friend Lyle Lovett and playing the fiddle for years with Chip Taylor, young Rodriguez is a very mutable musician. Now a powerful songwriter, she's moved from the rural back porch to the cool urban apartment in these odes to refracted love. Co-writers and collaborators here include Mary Gauthier and Lucinda Williams, while producer Malcolm Burn focuses a contemporary soundscape that in the main avoids the pop/rock cliches. An album that repays repeated listening.
