Flu cases set to rise as at-risk group fails to take free jabs

TOO few people are taking up free flu jabs, the Scottish Government has revealed.

It warned that the number of flu cases was expected to continue rising this month.

While the vaccination rate for over-65s is running at more than 70 per cent, the rate for the younger "at risk" group is well below target, it said.

The target level is 60 per cent, but so far only 46.6 per cent of that group – those with long-term health problems such as heart disease or other conditions which make them vulnerable to complications – have been immunised.

Public health minister Shona Robison said: "Nobody should underestimate the potential consequences of flu – particularly for those who suffer breathing and heart problems."
