• EXHIBITION: The Scottish Colourists. George ‘Leslie’ Hunter (1877-1931) was one of a group of four artists now known collectively as The Scottish Colourists. Together, they were among the most influential Scottish artists of the 20th century. Although they never worked as a group and their art developed at different rates, there were times when the Colourist artists painted together in twos and threes in France or Iona. What they had in common was a love for bold colour in their painting. Their work revitalised Scottish art and has influenced succeeding gener-ations of Scottish artists to this day.This major exhibition comprises over fifty works of varying sizes by Hunter, and is drawn from public and private collections throughout the UK. • LITERARY EVENT: Jesus Was a Scotsman. The anniversary of the new Testament in Scots. William Laughton Lorimer (1885-1967), a native of Angus,and celebrated scholar of the classical languages, finally translated the New Testament from the original Greek (and other sources) into Scots during the 1950s and 1960s. His son completed revisions and it was finally published in 1983 when it became an instant success. It has since also found its way onto audio cassette and CD.
