Five Things to Do At The Fringe Today: Tuesday August 7

Your pick of the day’s Fringe shows.

COMEDY

LUCY PORTER: PEOPLE PASSION: Porter has become a real Fringe favourite in recent years – and deservedly so. The Radio 4 regular and TV panel show luminary returns this year with her all-new stand-up show. Great gags and superbly worked material are this girl’s trademarks, and there’s plenty of that to be had in her latest offering. The Stand, 6pm, £9 (£8), 0131-623 3030

THEATRE

THE 27 CLUB: You’ll have heard about the 27 Club. That’s right, we’re talking about the celestial rock club in sky that counts the likes of Joplin, Hendrix, Morrison, Cobain and Winehouse among its members. This show uses narrative and song to get to the bottom of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll myth. With Jack Lukeman, right. George Square, 6pm, 315, 0131-623 3030

MUSIC

AUSTEN GEORGE: He may not be a household name, but Austen George is one of the most gifted young singer-songwriters in the Capital. Tonight he performs another musically ambitious folk-rock set. St Bride’s, 7.30pm, £8 (£6), 0131-623 3030

KIDS

NESSIE THE LOCH NESS MONSTER: Purves Puppets spectacular tells the story of Hughie McDui and Mairi Glengarry, escaping from her wicked uncle, Naggie McCraggie. We also meet Nessie, left, the famous monster from the loch All in, it’s a whole lot of fun, this. Fairmilehead Parish Church Hall, 2pm, £8, 0131-623 3030

FOLK

SCOTTISH SONGWRITERS IN THE ROUND: Renowned folk singers Tom Fairnie, Simon Kempston and Mark Barnett present a great night of live music at St Cecilia’s Hall, the oldest concert venue in Scotland. St Cecilias Hall, Niddry Street, 8.30pm, £9 (£7), 0131-623 3030
